I'm so anxious. Having to wait for my own purchases to appear, so that I can create my own inventory, is frustrating. I am not, by nature, an incredibly patient person. When I want to do something I want to do it as soon as possible.
Another thing I want to do and have to wait on? The club! I'm trying to get some things together, track down some potential extras, get some artwork made up, and so on. It all needs to figure itself out, and be complete, now. If any time needs to be taken, it should be taken while I'm sleeping. Just a forewarning to any other potential ideas that may pop into my brain in the future. You've been forewarned, ideas!
While I have this open, and I'm just blathering, let me say that I love what I do. I may have too many plates spinning in the air, but dyeing is so much fun, and so rewarding, that I don't mind one bit. No knickers in a twist here, I promise. Because I enjoy what I do so much, I've thought about maybe working out some kind of how-to, or "this is how I dye" such-and-such, when I next dye a batch up for the shop. Is that something you might like to see?
A lot of independent dyers tend to keep their dyeing techniques close to the chest, as though they're secreting away some long family secret. We probably have all read the same books, practiced certain techniques, tested others and discarded them, played and fiddled, splattered and smothered, dipped and painted, soaked and steamed--you get the idea. I would wager that there are more differences in our work stations and studios than in our dyeing techniques. I would love if the dyers I knew shared one of their "secrets", just one, so that I could talk shop. Have you ever had something you've loved to do and didn't have anyone to talk with--about the details, about the frustrations, with specific questions? I understand, though, the fear and sense of need to protect their work, their style.
Where does that leave me? Well, I don't do anything so out of the ordinary at the moment that would cause me to stuff the only written account of my dyeing methods into my bra. Not that my bra is the most high-tech of methods to securing such information.
I gather, then, that a photo-tutorial may be of interest to some people who would like to dip into dyeing (pun intended). If this is the case, definitely let me know and I'll set it up. I may have to wrangle working out the step-photography myself, or sweet-talk my dearest into becoming a minion to The Yarn Side.
